Portable Ventilation Technology
The outbreak of COVID-19 in the U.S. has created a large influx in the number of patients entering hospitals. Because the disease primarily affects lung function, this has lead to a strain on the national stockpile of available mechanical ventilators. Ventilators are expensive and complex to manufacture, meaning that hospitals treating patients experiencing acute respiratory distress as a result of COVID-19 are at risk of not having enough equipment available.
Using our expertise in working with sensor and motor technology, Phoenix America was able to develop a solution to help ease demand for mechanical ventilators. The PhoenixAir is a product that works by adding a mechanized pump to a traditional valve mask. These products cost a fraction of ventilators and would allow medical staff to save time while potentially providing a less invasive treatment for acute respiratory distress.
